Hometown: Hometown is a hard word for Alex, shes never had a secure home. Moving since she was three year old, she's seen the sights and the scenes of America. All she knows is travel. Born in Manhattan, Alex can remember luxury, but she can remember hating it. The large houses, the butlers, the maids, it was all to much for her. The princess lifestyle her parents inforced on her, she wished she never had to go through.
The first move came when she had just turned three, her mother passed away, a car accident shattering Alex and her family. To escape the pain, Alex's dad, Nathan, moved them to Chicago. Alex and her younger brother, Lucas, started their new life, but it didnt last long. Their fathers job, relocated him across the country many times, from Los Angles to Washington, they lived somewhere new almost every year.
At age sixteen, Dallas, Texas, became her home and it was supposedly secure. 'The Lone Girl' the title of the diary she had kept from childhood, marking every moment in time as she saw new skylines, new people and new schools. Everything was in there. A secret, withheld in the pages, for no-one to see.
School had always been an issue, the smart girl that she was, was never highlighted due to the moving. Exams were taken on the road, studying was done in cafes on the highway. When they came to Dallas, Alex told her dad about boarding school, that she didnt want to move again, she wanted to stay and complete school to live her dreams and make her future look a little brighter. Now here she is, boarding school, security, finally.
Likes/Dislikes:
Alex likes simple things. Smiles, and hugs from people she cares about. Photography that captures the moments she really wants to treasure. Spring, the feeling of new start, the season she waits for every year. Her brother, she doesnt like him, she loves him, shes his rock and hes hers. The colour yellow, happiness screams from it when she sees it. Peacefulness, the quiet, just being with herself.
Dislikes come in small doses. She hates rumors, people who judge before they know you, racism. Sometimes she dislikes herself, having to be the "mom" figure to her brother, she dislikes the fact that he never knew her. And theres the normal teenage girl things, she hates bad hair days, zits appearing out of no-where, loosing friends, fights, and the crash diets she hears about every day.
Problems: Trust come hards to Alex, friends that come and go she doesnt connect to them cause she knowns she will move and have to make new friends and leave the others behind. Low confidence comes in Alex also, the quiet girl never thinks shes pretty, she thinks that she cant do anything. As beautiful and able that she is, she doesnt believe it. Sometimes she never thinks she can.
Uniqueness:Alex, even though she comes across as a normal teenager, who wears make-up, styles her hair and loves gossip, and boys, shes very different. She grew up faster than she had wanted to, being a "mom" figure to her brother, a support to her father, the mature one. She hides her talents, singing, artistic nature and musical. Keeping herself to herself, Alex is a book, a complex book that only some will understand.
Personality: Quiet, but once you get to know her, she comes out her shell and blossoms infront of your eyes. Smart
Other: Alex has never had a proper boyfriend. She's dated and had her first kiss, but shes never said 'I love you' or had it said to her. She has her friends that shes kept intouch with from previous towns, but never had a friend she could vent to, tell her secrets, have someone's shoulder to cry on.
Community Writing Sample:1. Your character's english teacher tells them they've failed her course. What does your character do?
A sigh escaped my lips as I looked over the large F that was painted red on the top right hand corner of my english exam. My brown orbs darted up to the teacher who was shaking her head sadly in my direction. As the deafening bell rang through the halls of the school, I packed my stuff into my small bag, and made my way towards the desk, where Miss Newbury stood wiping the green board.
"Miss Newbury?" I questioned making her turn quickly. "Can you explain my mark, I mean I studied and done extra credit, yet I get an F."
Her blonde hair shook as she moved her head to both sides. "I cant fail..." the words moved from my lips and the tone was quiet, almost upset, if I failed, I would return to my father and things wouldnt be pretty.
Journal Writing Sample:
First days are always hard, but today was easier than I thought, boarding school, its my security, no moving, no different house, hopefully ill even make friends here. The lone girl might not even be the lone girl anymore, I could become Alex, the girl who finally has a home. Lets see how it goes before I get my hopes up.
